The Myths that Mystify

Thousands of miles away—in time, in place,
Each night conspires to create a myth
That stands for nothing real, yet leaves you with
The vague impression of a human face.

- John Koethe

We all search for meaning in our work and lives. Devdutt Pattanaik suggests we try a tactic of our ancestors — finding life lessons in myth, ritual and shared stories. He looks at business and modern life through the lens of mythology

Devdutt Pattanaik takes an eye-opening look at the myths of India and of the West — and shows how these two fundamentally different sets of beliefs about God, death and heaven help us consistently misunderstand one another.

East vs. West — the myths that mystify

Within infinite myths lies eternal truth..

Thank you for introducing Devdutt Pattanaik to us Ajay ! Joseph Campbell http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Campbell has been the only one capable of making me understand mythology a bit (just a bit) so far but this TED is right on the money!

As I am growing older, I realize how important stories are to us human beings.

after years, I am reading fiction again…

Immense depth, myriad parallels and that’s Devdutt Patnaik for you. We have met him and heard him from my college days and every time he only gets deeper and deeper in his analogies and connections to our mundane lives.

This reminds me of BEN OKRI , the great Nigerian author who writes poetry in essay formats and has an incomparable passion for telling stories.

“The fact of storytelling hints at a fundamental human unease, hints at human imperfection. Where there is perfection there is no story to tell”. – Ben Okri
