In 'The Spell of the Sensuous', David Abram posits that with the development of written language, humans came to live in a world of their own construction, isolated from the basic meanings and interactions of existence and from the reality of the natural world. He's a philosopher and magician. I found it a deeply impactful read. I strive in my life to go beneath the constructs of words and thought to experience the natural world as it is. As a poet, I paradoxically use words to convey the hidden and unspoken experiences that I have. As an artist I endeavour to combine images and words.
